This Czech city, with a population of about 80 000, has a long tradition of lignite mining, which in 1965-85 resulted in the demolition of its historic city in order to extend mining and built a new planned city.

Standard-gauge trams have operated here since 1901 and the 18.6km (11.6 mile) system with four lines changed its alignment considerably with the redevelopment of the city. Tatra T3 trams were the standard here for many years, but the first low-floor trams (Vario LFplus) arrived here in 2025. The most recently delivery to the 48-strong fleet was five Pragoimex EVO2 low-floor articulated cars in 2019-2020.

A recent tender for more similar trams saw just one bidder, Pragoimex. This is the marketing organisation representing tram building by the Alliance TW Team made up of Krnovske opravny a strjírny sro (mechanical) and VKV Praha pro (electrical equipment). They currently produce low-floor trams of type EVO1 (four-axle) and EVO2 (six-axle articulated).

The Most-Litvinov order has now been placed for six EVO2 at a price of CZK 48.96M per tram (this compares with CZK 34.65M per car for those ordered five years ago) for delivery by April 2026.
